This site aims to deconstruct and explain theories and ideas covered in Interpersonal Communication class at UNI. By applying the ideas and theories we have learned to a show, like Mad Men, we can easily see them in action and understand them in all situations we encounter in our daily lives. This site will explore theories in the areas of intrapersonal communication; gender; children and family; attraction; conversation; relationship building; emotion; sex; long lasting relationships; elderly, loss and grief; conflict and power; and relational dissolution. Mad Men is set in the 1960s on Madison Avenue in New York City. It focuses on the lives and business dealings of the people who work at the advertising firm, Sterling Cooper. The show focuses on the characters' personal and professional struggles and triumphs in a turbulent era of social and political change. Revolving mainly around Don Draper's life, the show illustrates many ideas central to the study of interpersonal communication. The show follows the constantly changing dynamics of Don's relationship with his wife, Betty, and with his coworkers and clients at Sterling Cooper.
